Free Web Hosting: Avoid Unwanted Banners and Advertising!

Not all free web hosting is equal

Finding a free web host is a great idea if you want to start a website at no cost or minimal cost. Although I’ve created several websites over the years, I thought I’d try and do the whole thing with no money down for a bit of a challenge! So I’ve recently started a couple of free websites with free web hosts where we provide free expert reviews on downloadable health and fitness programs (this is where my expertise lies). I was surprised how easy it was to setup a free website with free web hosting, so I thought I’d quickly write about it and tell you about some of the benefits and pitfalls and lastly… where I’ve found the best free web hosting. Free web hosting can be great for both personal websites and business websites. It can be a particularly good option if you are stepping into website setup for the first time. There are several options available for free web hosting and free website setup. However, for the benefit of your visitors and your own success as a webmaster, there are several important things to consider, unwanted advertising or banners is one such thing.

Unwanted advertising or obtrusive banners

Many free web host providers create revenue for themselves by posting advertisements or banners on your website. They then receive commission when somebody clicks on the advertisement. However, you receive nothing! This can not only be distracting and annoying, but can redirect your desired traffic to another site. This is particularly important if you are looking to make money from your website. Most advertising programs post links that are related to your website content. If your business sells yellow widgets, you may find advertisements for a rival companies yellow widgets being promoted on your website! If you are not looking to make money from your website this will not be such a big deal, however, when there are excellent alternative options without unwanted annoying banners… why compromise.

So how do I avoid unwanted banners and advertisements… and get a decent host service?

Well there are a couple of options available to you in order to avoid unwanted banners. The first option of course is to pay… a basic web hosting plan is not expensive, but why pay when you can get it for free. The first free web host I found without banners and advertising promised the world, and was ok for the first week or so. However I soon started getting complaints that the website was down. I would go to log in with my administrator login and just get some spiel about the free web host server being down, but the paid server only had 0.01% downtime… it sounded dodgy.

How much it will cost to publish a blog ??? I was asked this question one of my friend five months earlier and today I got an email from her “Finally, I have created my blog and I am getting around 700-900 visitors per day, also I have applied for AdSense and now I am earning from other referral programs…” You know actually I just told her where she can get all the resources to create a blog. And she has done a wonderful job!

In this article I am listing all those free resources that you can also use to create a good quality blog.

Free Blogging site – Most popular blogging site is blogger.com. It provides lots of features like using your own template, using AdSense and publishing other Ads. Its easy to use interface is excellent for the beginners. Some other good blogging sites are wordpress.org, typepad.com and blog.co.in.

Free Blog template – You can easily get well designed free templates for the blog. Just visit freetemplates.blogspot.com, free-web-template.blogspot.com, ourblogtemplates.com or idwebtemplate.com. They have a huge collection of templates for various categories of blogs.

Free Blog banners – The most important section of blog is the top header. Place some attractive background picture in the header section. You can get free banners from webheader-banner.blogspot.com and themeheaders.com. Good quality pictures can also be obtained from images.Google.com.

Free Blog content – If you have no mood to write articles than just copy n paste free articles. There are some websites like articlecircle.com, articlesbase.com that provide free articles for your blog and website.

Free Blog widgets – To add some extra features you can add free widgets to the blog. You can easily change the widget color and size. widgetsforfree.blogspot.com, widgetbox.com and mashable.com provides lots of free widgets.

Free Affiliate programs – Now you have created your blog, so the next step is to earn money by displaying Ads. You can join clickbank.com, friendfinder.com, hostgator.com, shaadi.com or fropper.com. These are some popular affiliate programs.

Free Blog directory – Your blog needs more traffic to earn money from Ads. Hence submit the blog to some popular directories like dmoz.org, technorati.com, blogtoplist.com or blogged.com. Continue reading →
